Mathias Grassow

drone - ambient - soundscapes - aureal alchemy
Grassow is known as the king of the ambient drone.
Jim Brenholts,

Mathias Grassow is an internationally aclaimed artist specializing in Drone Ambient Sound Scapes. Audience feedback confirms that he succeeds with creating music that has a deeply spiritual component byond any belief system and touches many way deeper than traditional new age or dedicated meditation music. Mathias intends his music to be as open as possible while persuing his personal life path with his music to keep him real, grounded and connected to himself and the world. He refers to his musical approach as Aureal Alchemy, with his music as a tool to facilitate personal reflection and inner growth. By slowing down and automatically concentrating upon the detailed changes and developments within the music many listeners give account of entering a dream-like state that helps them to process life challenges in a non-threatening way and describe the end of the listening session as waking up mentally refreshed.
Within his field Mathias Grassow is covering a lot of different styles and moods, with side projects progressing even further into the realm of neighbouring genres such as soundtracks for classic gothic short stories (Nostalgia), Art Rock (Anam Cara) or Chill (Wintersilence).
The enduring respect Mathias gains from his peers can be traced back by the constant flow of colaborative partners who include among others Italian drone legend Alio Die, Australian Ethereal singer-songwriter Louisa John-Kroll, Klaus Wiese, ....... (to be sorted refined and possibly expanded)

Mathias Grassow is one the leading figures of the "sacred" space music.

Some recommended Mathias Grassow listening

His biggest release in over a decade – nearly five and a half hours of soaring soundscapes – and quite arguably ever, since this one isn't a compilation so much as a richly sustained, coherent suite that moves over its ten tracks from dramatic darkness and grandeur to stillness and light. Absolutely stunning.

Captivating Gothic Horror Soundtrack
Image/photo Nostalgia (Gleisberg - Grassow - Seviroli): The Fall Of The House Of Usher
Edgar Allen Poe and especially "The House Of Usher" have inspired a lot of artists throughout the years, and this one is easily the best I have heard so far. Very lively field recordings, massive drones set the sonic scenery, held together by orchestral sounds. This soundtrack inspired me to finally read the story, and it is difficult to describe what both in combination did to me. This release is a highlight, absolutely up there (or better) with huge Hollywood or game productions.
